HBD to my Best Friend!

Today is my best friend's birthday! I chose to share this photo of us because it describes our relationship to the T. Goofing around, laughing our butts silly, and her carrying me on her shoulders simply because I'm the little sister. ;) On this most special of days I just want to express to this sissy of mine how much I love and appreciate her. She is my biggest supporter and a constant example to me of selfless service! The things she does for our family are never ending! There is this moment, that I can remember so clearly, that I feel was the defining moment of our relationship. It was my first day of Kindergarten, we hadn't been in the States long, and I was more nervous and shaky than a fish out of water. As we boarded the bus, my sister's cool "big kid" (second grade) friends rushed over to invite her to sit with them. In reality this moment couldn't have lasted longer than a couple of seconds, but to little 5 year old me, it felt like an eternity. That moment when they asked her to sit with them my little heart immediately fell and started to resign itself to the fact that I would have to sit by myself and calm my own little racing heart. Without even a moment's hesitancy, though, my sister quickly turned them down, grabbed my hand, and led me over to a seat for the two of us. This moment was so defining for me because it taught me that no matter what, my sister would always be there to sit by me, whether it was on a bus on the first day of school or in any situation in life. Not because she felt like she had to, or because she felt like she needed to, but because she wanted to. Now, I know I'm totally going to be ripping off "In Her Shoes" with this but I love that, in the movie, this is their sister poem! So, even though, you hate this movie, sissy, this one's for you!

I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
my heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
no world (for beautiful, you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)

Happy birthday best friend!
